Betsey Johnson's Girly Goth Fall 2011

The clothes had a lot more color that Gothic fashionistas are used to. However, the edgy sensibility was there at the Fall 2011 Betsey Johnson fashion show in corset-styling, the jet black Louise Brooks hairstyles and blood red lipstick. Black lace trimmed dresses, shoes and neck chokers.  Draped hoods and skirts gave appropriate drama.

It's hard to believe this once Studio54-partying designer is now a 68 year old grandmother...It is especially hard to believe when you see her still doing her signature cartwheel down the catwalk at the end of show.  Celebrity stylist Patricia Field of Sex and the City fame was dragged down the runway too...

Guishem Punk Goth at NY Fashion Week

There weren’t a lot of designers who showed Gothic sensibility this season at NY Fashion Week.  Guishem showed an edgier, sharp, pieced collection that was reminiscent of the witch in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.

The collection was a little bit of punk, a little bit of Goth, part insect and a lot of rock n’ roll.  It was all about cocktail dresses or slick gowns for young rebellious things.

Designer Guillermo Jop studied fashion at London’s Central St. Martin and came from a family in the textile business.

Celebrity fans include Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, Kelly Osborne and Brittany Snow.

Anti-Valentine's Guide: Endless Night Vampire Ball in NYC

Let the sentimental fools make their little dinner plans.  Those who want real fun are rejecting the commercial Valentine's Day and partying in Downtown NYC at the Endless Night Vampire Ball on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

There will be performances by the darkly glamorous Libertina Dance Company, ruby red lip makeovers, serenades by the Baron, the vampire lounge singer.  The organizers are famous for their Halloween parties, ranked #1 in the world by TripAdvisor.

It should be sexy...The site describes it as a "masque ball theme touched off with a Belle Epoch salon noir from the esoteric renaissance of 1890s France. "   Lovely!

If you're feeling broke, but opulent, the ultra-exclusive Death & Co. bar is giving away a $500 tab.  Hold your own sexy soiree... Via Bloomspot

Obscura: Oddities are Fashion's New Hipsters

How does a tiny little shop in the East Village inspire top fashion designers and its own reality show?  By having the most interesting collection of antiques, oddities, Victorian funeral photos, mourning beads and bizarre taxidermy that reaches beyond the imagination.

Owner Mike Zohn had a love of antiques from an early age.  He readily admits that if he hadn't opened a shop, he would have been a hoarder.  Luckily for devoted shoppers, he went with the business.  Co-owner  Evan Micholson was a Goth/Industrial/Post-Punk rocker whose performances included covering her audience with fake blood.  During her music career, she developed a passion for anatomical antiques as well as art inspired by "extremes of human experience and the esthetics of grief."  She is also a scholar in residence of the Morbid Anatomy Library.
