Thierry Mugler's Alien Noir

Fashion designer Thierry Mugler has a few teaser images floating on their website.  The alien-inspired jet black photos are there to entice you to watch their March 2nd fashion show livestream from Paris.  The collection is called "Anatomy of Change" and can be accessed on their Facebook page.  

Mugler has always been known for his other-worldly couture.  He has recently teamed up with Lady Gaga for music and she has reciprocated by emulating his alien-chic on red carpets.

Gareth Pugh Fall 2010 - Techno Goth Fashion

If you are a regular reader, you must be used to my love for this bad boy designer. Dark, edgy, unapologetic. His recent collection had severe, sculpted cuts, part alien/part cyber armor. There were a few looks that had thin, dripping, web-like fringe. The male and female models were almost androgynous, with the slicked down hair and pale lips. The clothing was sexy and flattering...I couldn't wait to get to the soiree and wrap myself around them all!

Macabre Fashion: Emilio Pucci Fall 2010

I have a Pucci beach bag. I purchased it because it was in terry cloth and had a brightly cheerful, busy print.  It was exactly what I expected from Pucci, and I use it when I don't want to scare away the kiddies on the sand.  However, the Italian designer surprised me this week with their showing of very dark, dramatic looks.  The classic geometric wavy prints were reinterpreted in a tonal black rendition.  Fringe, fur, feathers and velvet took the place of the floating silks I had come expect.  Has this iconic design house joined and come to the dark side? You be the judge...

Vintage Book Handbags from Rebound Designs

Mixing literary with the fashionable may seem to be an odd couple. One does not often think Edgar Allen Poe and a Purse, or Jane Eyre and chic. Dorothy Parker was a woman of dark wit and quite a stylish sense of fashion. She never failed to match irony with sarcasm.
Caitlin Phillips of Rebound Designs has salvaged unloved vintage books of great prose and given them new life fashionable handbags. She takes the covers and bonds them with coordinating fabrics, beads and hardware to create brainy bijoux.
Are the words lost inside? No. She takes titillating passage and creates brooches as well.

Rivithead - Affordable Punk/Goth Fashion for Boys & Girls

1Alas, one of the toughest things about being a fashionable Gothic Diva, is the toll it takes on your purse. The delicate details that make Gothic fashion so special is also what drives the prices up. Let's face it, a simple t-shirt does not take much effort to make, but laced up, tailored, sculpted corset seams and hardware CAN make everything expensive.

What a nice surprise to find an online boutique that sells intricately designed pieces that had nice fabrics, great style AND came into price points most people could afford? If the Shoe Fits...Severe Style for Gothic Divas

"I will heel you, I will save your sole, I will even dye for you..." proclaimed the poetic words off a shoe repair sign in Manhattan. They set a romantic tone for this roundup of eccentric, stylish, painful and artistic footwear I came across in this roundup:

Spotted at the Valentino Spring 2010 show were Philip Treacy's spectacular embroidered tulle shoes. The designer is known more for his dramatic hat creations, but that may soon change. These lovelies look like dark phantoms are wrapped around your angles and ready to take flight.

How about this dominating over-the-knee boot by Christian Louboutin? Jennifer Lopez swears her allegiance to the designer in her new single Louboutins and it's not difficult to see why. The flattering silhouette and knock 'em dead color would make any diva look fierce.Spikes are everywhere of late. On the dresses and shoulders of every rockstar on television, jewelry, handbags and of course, some fierce heels... Louise Goldin's collection for (affordable!) Topshop has several styles of these pointy pieces

So will footwear become more sedate later this year? I wouldn't count on it. In Women's Wear Daily's preview of shoe designer's sketch for Fall 2010, silhouettes and details certainly did NOT tone down for the masses. Donald J Pliner , Be & D and Giuseppe Zanotti designs are seen above.

Rodarte Uses Living Dead Dolls as Muse

Rodarte is a designer label that has clothed many a red carpet starlet in Hollywood. While most upscale designers like to cite historical fashion icons, famous artists and architecture as being their collection inspiration, sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy did not. The California-based design duo cull style ideas from creepy Goth toys, The Living Dead Dolls.

“We’re, like, totally obsessed with them,” Kate Mulleavy said. “There’s, like, a Bloody Mary one and Edgar Allen Poe doll and an Annabel Lee.”

Pale and Sculptural Gothic Fashion - Michael Lau at HK Fashion Week

Does Gothic Fashion always need to be dark and somber? Designer Michael Lau proved it did not at Hong Kong's Spring 2010/Summer 2010 fashion week.

The designer took two of next season's most important trend directions, (pale, neutral colors and surface texture embellishment) to a new, innovative level. Michael Lau's background is quite diverse, his resume includes toy design, painter and artist in addition to his skills in fashion.

The collection came across as The-Mummy-Meets-Phantom (or Mike Myers), but in a most elegant, feminine way.

Lady Gaga Does Goth

This month's Out Magazine features a perfectly fabulous photo spread of pop star Lady Gaga. Hailed as one of the freshest fashion and gay icons of today, the "Lady is a Vamp" edition is photographed by one of my favorite photographers, Ellen Von Unwerth.

Look for images of the superstar in a sexy fetish outfits, canoodling with a skeleton, lounging in a coffin... Photos not posted here include a fashionable mummy pose and a pic where she looks like she just had a tryst with a vampire. Click here to see the rest...

Underground Goth Fashion on Berlin 5 Subway

Last Thursday, the most fashionable venue in Germany was the Berlin 5 subway line. The underground fashion show displayed the creations of punk, Goth and fetish designers like X-Tra-X, Alex in Wunderland, Savage Wear, Pinup Couture and Models As Rockstars. The mobile catwalk was a showcase for the designers who came from Europe and North America and lasted through the 45 minute metro ride.
