Jean Paul Gaultier's Punk Can-Can Couture

Are you a fashion geek like me and followed Jean Paul Gaultier through the years?  If you did, you would have loved his most recent Haute Couture showing.  It mixed the elaborate silhouettes, miles of silk tulle and dramatic head pieces he is known for.

This collection had some punk influence, some Can-Can surprises and wildly colorful prints.  A certain flamenco influence that we have seen before made its way to some of the looks.  While thumping DJ sets are expected at most fashion shows these days, Gaultier bucked the standard and surprised everyone with an elegant Catherine Deneuve.  Her voice announced each look verbally in the tradition of Haute Couture's classic presentations.

Accessories included the dramatic feathered mohawks of course.  Some of the models sported the JPG and Alain Mikli collaborative group of eyeglasses.

Men's Fashion Paris - Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011

Jean Paul Gaultier's recent fashion show for men drew from diverse influences. The long, flowing silhouettes were inspired by Moroccan djellabas. There were stark black shiny pieces with a corset theme. Austere paint-splattered pieces were also show with classically tailored separates.

Feathered Headdresses

Dramatic feathered headdresses seemed to be the accessory for the start of 2010. Might this be the start of Bird-fetish Goth?

Jean Paul Gaultier - Spring 2010 Haute Couture

Paris fashion's still-reigning bad boy, Jean Paul Gaultier wowed guests at his recent runway show again. This collection, inspired by gauchos, Aztecs and birds of paradise showed elaborately embellished headdresses, sculpted gowns and mixed media. Corsets woven from leathers, hair, satin and what looked like jungle grasses mixed with draped hair, fronds and embroidered sombreros.

Harper Bazaar's Magical Tim Burton Fashion Spread

In honor of Tim Burton's retrospective at the Modern Museum of Art in NYC, Harper's Bazaar's October issue featured a drool-worthy fashion spread of Tim Walker photography. The gorgeous pages featured elaborate gowns from almost every great couturier. Prepare to indulge in looks from Yves Saint-Laurent, Atelier Versace, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Nina Ricci, Giorgio Armani, Balmain just to name a few.
The photographs feature some very interesting plays on scale, nightmarish distortion and cameos by Tim in a clown and Santa Clause costume. Incredibly well dressed versions of favorite characters like Beetlejuice's Lydia and Edward Scissorhands also make an appearance.
